Chocolate Cake - Classic♥

Allow me to guide you through a simple yet extremely delicious chocolate cake recipe. Prepare for an adventure into the world of cocoa-infused bliss!


  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk (any type - dairy or plant-based)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water


  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing; a few lumps are okay.

  4. Add Boiling Water: Carefully stir in the boiling water to the batter. The batter will be quite thin; this is normal.

  5. Bake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Place them in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.

  6. Cool and Frost: Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.

For Frosting (Optional):

  • You can use store-bought frosting or prepare a simple chocolate buttercream frosting using powdered sugar, cocoa powder, butter, and a splash of milk. Beat these ingredients together until smooth and spreadable.
